Infrastructure giant Adani Group is all set to become India’s Green Goliath, as it announced an ambitious $100 billion-worth energy transition for five of its companies over the next decade. Led by the billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani, the group aims to become net zero by 2050 or earlier for Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (SEZ)., Adani Green Energy Ltd., Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., Ambuja Cements Ltd., and ACC Ltd.

At the core of Adani’s strategy lies transforming itself from a traditional fossil fuel player into a renewable energy powerhouse, which includes expanding its renewable energy generation to a staggering 45 GW capacity by 2030.

While solar, wind, and green hydrogen are the primary focus areas, Adani aims to decarbonize its portfolio by 2050 and plant 100 million trees by 2030. This ambitious goal involves clean energy generation, greening its existing infrastructure, and adopting sustainable practices across its operations in cement, ports, and power.

Other Industries That Could Benefit

Adani’s energy ambitions are colossal, translating into a goldmine of opportunities for various industries. The group aims to build three giga factories to manufacture solar panels, wind turbines, and hydrogen electrolyzers. Besides, Adani is on target to install 75,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030 and build plants that will turn agri waste into gas for city gas operations.

In the face of Adani amping up its efforts, these industries and companies could gain from the green transition, along with their stocks.

Making Hay While the Sun Shines

As part of the green push, Adani plans to manufacture 10 GW of solar panels annually, which presents potential for companies like:

  • Solar panel manufacturers
  • Infrastructure developers to build solar parks and integrate them into the grid
  • Inverters and battery storage solutions providers to meet the demand for grid-connected and off-grid solar solutions

Top players in the segment – Tata Power Solar, Vikram Solar, Sterling and Wilson Solar, L&T Infrastructure, and Luminous Power Technologies

Winds of Change

India’s vast wind potential is set to be harnessed by Adani, benefiting

  • Wind Turbine Manufacturers
  • Wind Farm Developers
  • Transmission and distribution companies integrate wind energy into the grid.

  • Electrolyzer technology providers
  • Storage and transportation solutions providers

Top players in the segment – Industrial gases firms Linde and Praxair, NEL Hydrogen and Greenstat Hydrogen Industries

Beyond Generation: Data Centers

As the Adani Group aims to create a robust ecosystem for sustainable development, it will impact other sectors like:

  • Data centers to meet the exponential growth in data consumption
  • Technology providers, including server manufacturers and network infrastructure providers
  • Renewable energy suppliers to provide clean power to the data centers

Top players in these segments – Yondr Data Centers, STT GDC India, Dell Technologies, Greenko, ReNew Power, CISCO Systems

‘Port’ential Players

As India’s gateway to trade, ports play a vital role in the green energy supply chain. Adani’s plans to greenify its ports and build dedicated renewable energy export terminals could raise the demand for:

  • Port Operators with infrastructure and expertise
  • Logistics companies to facilitate the movement of renewable energy equipment and products
  • Renewable energy exporters export their products globally.

Top players in the segment – DP World and Container Corporation of India, Suzlon Energy, Greenko

Smart Grids

Integrating renewable energy sources into the existing grid requires intelligent solutions from:

  • Grid modernization companies with expertise in grid automation and digitalization
  •  Software providers for energy management and grid optimization
  • Energy storage solutions providers such as battery storage solutions to manage the intermittent nature of renewable energy

Top players in the segment – Siemens, ABB Companies, C3.ai, Sentient Energy, Tesla and Tata Power
